Situated on 50 scenic acres of rolling hills on Evansville’s northwest side, Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden is home to over 700 animals, thousands of exotic botanic species, and AMAZONIA, Forest of Riches. MPZ&BG was founded in 1928 and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The blog is written by one of the Zoo’s resident keel-billed toucans, Pico the Magnificent! That’s his unofficial title. You can visit Pico in AMAZONIA, but make sure to say hi to the rest of his pals throughout the Zoo.

I recently visited the zoo for the first time in many years. I was amazed at the changes and updates! The new entrance is beautiful and I was impressed by everything. The only thing that I would suggest is to consider a different option than the polystyrene cups served in the dining areas. They aren’t the best for the environment! Maybe a fun idea would be take-home souvenir cups? I’m sure you have already thought about these options. I have worked in the Food and Beverage industry for years and know that the foam cups are considerably cheaper! Just a thought! Thank you for a fun visit, we will be back again!
We are working on developing a line of reusable plastic souvenir cups.
The Zoo has certainly changed a lot since I was a kid and all for the better! My wife and I own season passes and try to go at least a few times per month. My daughter just turned 2 and loves all the ‘aminals’!
Thanks for such a great experience that’s close to home! We are currently looking forward to Boo At The Zoo.
The Mesker Park Zoo is very nice. I love the atmosphere that it has. It’s in a lovely park like setting that just makes you feel that all the animals have a lot of space to roam around and gives the impression they are very well taken care of. I have been to several bigger zoos, but sometimes left sad and depressed that the animals didn’t have enough space or natural setting…. I Love our little zoo. Amazonia is wonderful! and I cannot wait to go back and see the baby jaguars. I hope we are getting enough funding to help keep making regular updates to our amazing zoo. =)
Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden has certainly become a well-known attraction in our area. I am so pleased we have such a great atmosphere to share the greatness of life on our planet. I have gone to Mesker Park Zoo since I was very young, I still remember the monkey ship and the lion’s den. I am proud to purchase a membership for my family and I each year. We all enjoy going to the zoo frequently and visiting all the animals and checking out all the new improvements across the zoo. Though there are areas that need improvement, It makes very happy to see all the updates under way. Our zoo needs as much support as possible to make it one of the best! Thanks to all who help support our zoo!
